When I began thinking about this topic and doing my research, I realized that I should be discussing not only about war and health but, more importantly, on the war against the people’s right and access to health.

General Assembly and the Municipal Health Council of Indigenous Peoples

With the objective of attaining the full participation of indigenous peoples in the management of local health systems,  on February 24, 2011 the General Assembly and Health Council of Indigenous Peoples was installed in the Health District of San Pedro La Laguna, Solola, Guatemala. This was the first such council to be established in Guatemala.

Health Workers visit the Morong 43

Last May 2009, intal partners Advocates for Community Health, Council for Health and Development (CHD) and Gabriela conducted a training cum workshop for community health workers (CHWs) to enhance their skills in documenting their herbal medicine practice. Two participants were conspicuously absent during the follow up training on herbal medicine documentation ---medical doctor Merry Mia-Clamor and midwife Teresa “Tere” Quinawayan.
