With feelings of pain, indignation and sadness, the organisations and individuals who make part of the International People's Health Movement in Latin America and the World are making an urgent call for the mobilization of support for the lives and integrity of the original ommunities and people from the south of Colombia in the Cauca Valley by denouncing, before the international community, the criminal acts committed by the Government of President Álvaro Uribe.

On May 13th/14th, 2008 Dr. Binayak Sen, an activist with a lifelong commitment to the issues of community health and human rights, will complete his first year of unjust imprisonment at the Raipur Central jail in Chhattisgarh. Organizations across the globe will be holding events on the evening of May 13th, 2008 to mark one year of his imprisonment. We appeal to your organization to hold rallies, candlelight vigils or lectures against his unconstitutional detention. Chhattisgarh Government Should Not Use Naxalite Issue to Silence Critics.

Five days of intense fighting between the Mehdi army militia and the Iraqi military has left hospitals in Iraq overwhelmed with the number of casualties. Doctors for Iraq's network of doctors across the country report that hospitals are lacking many medical supplies such as IV fluid, antibiotics and specialist doctors to treat the injured.

After five years, we are back here to the streets that unified us, to say to the world that each one of you who went around the world protesting against that illegal war was RIGHT.

I know it was costly. It was costly for us as Iraqis, it was costly of our blood and tears. But it was for a bigger cause, a cause for our country to be free and dignified.

On a cold and rainy evening in Vancouver, over 30 people gathered outside the U.S. consulate to draw attention to the health impact of the brutal Israeli siege of Gaza. Protesters carried signs highlighting the atrocious health situation in Gaza and called on Israel - and it's Canadian and U.S. backers - to end the siege and the occupation of Palestinian lands.

Ramallah, 28/02/2008. An Israeli airstrike aimed at the ministry of interior building in Gaza City also destroyed the nearby Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS) head office in Gaza and killed a 5-month-old baby in a residential building in the same area.

In a forum on The Global Crisis and People’s Health, held in Balay Kalinaw at the University of the Philippines in Diliman last July 31, health activists pointed out that further militarization pose the greatest threat to health and peace.
