Designated by the World Health Organization, since 1950 each year a topic important for global health is brought forth as a component of global advocacy for world health. This year the theme of climate change aims to address climate change as a public health issue and the public health threats that arise from "ever growing threats to global public health security".

More than 10,000 people from across the United States and around the world converged in Atlanta, Georgia, earlier this summer for the first-ever U.S. Social Forum. Nearly a thousand workshops, plenaries, concerts, and film screenings addressed the theme “Another world is possible. Another US is necessary.”

The People's Health Movement (PHM) is a global coalition of grassroots organizations working for the right to health and challenging the prevailing system of health care delivery that is failing to serve most of the poor worldwide. The People's Health Movement - USA Circle (www.phm-usa.org) is organizing various outreach activities as a way to build awareness of and support for the Right to Health in our country. As the US chapter of a global organization we also must take advantage of our location in the United States to carry out activities focused on support for the international movement.

Groups Decry Impact Of IP And Health Terms In US Trade Agreements

WASHINGTON, DC - Public health activists are condemning recent terms agreed to by Colombia, Peru and Central American countries in bilateral trade negotiations with the United States, that bind those countries to offer patent protections that exceed standards in multilateral agreements. The groups now are hoping for a more favourable outcome in two sets of negotiations currently underway between the United States and countries that have been ravaged by the HIV/AIDS virus - Thailand and the countries of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU).
