Dear Colleagues:
On behalf of the Peoples’ Health Movement—Latin America, we extend our enthusiastic greetings of solidarity, a fraternal embrace from the thousands of men and women who dreamed and fought along with you for another possible world, one with greater fairness and solidarity, for all.
We celebrate your electoral victory, seeing it as a manifestation of the advance of organized people and the grassroots movement to attain their liberty, dignity, sovereignty and health for all.
We know that you will continue to fight to ensure that health is a fundamental human right, by revitalizing your commitment to the tenets of Alma Ata; establishing effective communications channels with the people; ensuring sufficient resources for instituting a humanized, efficient, universal and high-quality health system; investing in research for transforming health and breaking free of dependence; bringing a new day to those who, up until now, have had no voice, no bread and no hope.
We want to share your sentiments, to make ours the emotions and memories coursing through you; the images engraved in the bottom of your hearts and in your nerve cells; the people with whom you shared the essence of the sadness, hope, dreams and joy of struggling to bring more life to the lives of everyone. Indelible events, many of which belong to the silence, and have no translation at all.
We are listening to the voices of your heroes, who are also our heroes, their songs of hope that announce the dawn of all those who gave the best of their lives.
For the barefoot without bread, for the joy, dignity, health and live of the peoples of the world, the struggle continues...
Fraternally,
María Hamlin Zúñiga
