Fight against Typhoid Fever in Zimbabwe - Public meeting

Members of PHM (Zimbabwe) rallied behind the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare (MOHCW), Zimbabwe College of Public Health Physicians, an affiliate of the Zimbabwe Medical Association, (ZIMA) and the Community Working Group on Health public policy dialogue series that was held on the 26th of January 2012 in Harare, and focused on the persisting and increasing burden of Typhoid Fever and diarrheal diseases in the country.

The Right to Health and Budget Analysis

The principle that health is a basic and a fundamental human right can never be overemphasized. For any country to be successful it must guarantee that every individual in that country has access to health, which is affordable and available.
Participation by the community in Health matters and budget formulation give a greater depth to the discussion and understanding of the health issues in the country and facilitates achievement of the same goal.

PHM Zim Brief January 2013

At Independence in 1980, Zimbabwe adopted the Primary Health Care Approach in line with the Alma Ata Declaration of 1978. The implementation of the PHC approach resulted in decentralization of health service provision from central level (cities and town) to administrative wards at district level in rural communities.

PHM Africa Activities - November 2012

There are a number of growing and active People’s Health Movement country circles in Africa linked to the various PHM programmes that are in place. Country circles and interest has grown in at least 20 African countries with membership ranging from interested individuals, loose networks and PHM circles with organised committees.

The People's Health Movement of South Africa condemns the Lonmin massacre

The brutal massacre of at least 34 Lonmim Mine workers, who were mowed down by automatic rifle fire from the South African police at Marikana in the North West province, has sent shock waves throughout South Africa and the world. The backdrop to this tragedy is the terrible working conditions in the mining industry and the desperate poverty and inequality that continues to plague South African society.
