Nepali General Strike in the 5th Day
Abraham Thomas
11 April 2006
The strike action called by the Maoists and the Political parties in Nepal entered the 5th day. The police and military brutality is obvious. Protestors, journalists, student leaders and activists are bearing the brunt of the brutality and suppression.
Most revered political figures who were involved in solidarity for peace and justice, have been locked up in jails. Today, medical students from the TU Teaching Institute were beaten up in their hostels, many falsely accused of possesing granades and fire arms. With the drinking water and food situation in the Kathmandu Valley in short supply and growing anger against the monarchy, the dictatorial king is under pressure, and the pressure is showing.
The people in Nepal pray that the days of the monarchy are numbered. The entire world is waiting in anticipation. What will happen next? What is going on in Nepal.
