Moving Progressive NGO Advocacy to the Next Level

People’s Health Movement USA invites you to:

Moving Progressive NGO Advocacy to the Next Level
May 27, 2009, 6pm
Meet in the lobby off the main entrance the Omni Shoreham Hotel
2500 Calvert St NW
Washington, DC 20008
The hotel is one block from Woodley Park/Zoo/Adams Morgan stop on the Metro Red Line

With the collapse of the neoliberal economic model, the new administration in Washington, and increase attention to comprehensive primary health care and the social determinants of health, progressive NGOs working on health issues must take advantage of the space for action.

Many of us have program work outside of the US and do advocacy in the District because of the effect of these institutions on the people we serve. Advocacy is not our primary activity, so we could be more effective working together. Different groups bring different expertise that we could all take advantage of. We could harmonize our language and demands to have more impact, and be more proactive. Groups with a presence in DC could benefit from more access to people around the country to put pressure on US government targets. A health perspective can be the bridge that unites many groups into a powerful coalition and builds a real movement for health and social justice.

Please come on May 27th to contribute to a discussion of the advocacy circle, how it might function, and how to organize it. Please feel free to invite anyone who would be compatible with this group.
