We have organised a panel discussion with almost twenty representatives from five continents of the PHM with which INSEV has long been collaborating to build the Turkey Circle.

“To promote the spirit of Alma Ata, conditions are better than ever”

The 30th anniversary of the 1978 Alma Ata Declaration was marked by a celebration in Brussels on October 17, 2008. During the program, two PHM activists were interviewed on the significance of Alma Ata and the way forward in the struggle for the right to health. Here are some excerpts from this interview with Arturo Quizhpe from Ecuador and Wim De Ceukelaire from Belgium.

What do you remember from Alma Ata and how did you learn about it?

The PHM Charter and Cuenca Declaration are Published in Turkish

As a Turkish Circle of PHM we published the PHM Charter and Cuenca Declaration in Turkish. We combined these two main resources of PHM in the same booklet. We also added an endorsement form in the booklet for participation. INSEV as a host organization of the Turkish Circle is coordinating the process of the PHM circle's information and distribution of the booklets.

The PHM Turkey Circle is Established on the 30th Anniversary of the 1978 Alma-Ata Conference

On the 30th anniversary of the Alma-Ata Conference, the PHM Turkey Circle was established. Right after the establishment in September 2008, several organizations and individuals were called to join the People’s Health Movement and endorse the Charter. Association for Human Health and Education (INSEV), as a host organization, started to inform individuals and organizations as a main coordinating body. Together with the INSEV, the Association of the Right to Health Movement (SHHD) is working actively to strengthen the Turkish Circle.

Three weeks of struggle for education as a public good and social right

Greek universities are paralyzed. More than half of faculties nation wide (Universities and Colleges) are occupied by the students who refuse the privatization of Greek education system. Every day General Assemblies are organized and new faculties are added to the list. At side of the students we find also university teachers, primary and secondary education teachers and several trade-unions.

Disability and Economics Circle of People’s Health Movement
