The Children´s Global Forum

Not Talk- Talk:The Children´s Global Forum

The Festival of Hope and Alegremia

The Children´s Global Forum is a chance for children to discuss, analyse and defend issues crucial to their health, happiness and well-being. It is an opportunity to celebrate diversity and hope. It is a chance to declare that we want energy, love and life and we want it now!

Have you got Alegremia? We have got Alegremia.

Alegremia is the bubbling, fizzing joy in our blood; helping us leap over mountains of doubt and fear, dissolving pride and racing past petty disagreements. This joy radiates positive thoughts, energy and hope to our families, our society and our institutions.

Who will participate in the Festival?

  • Girls and boys from Ecuador and the rest of the world.
  • Social institutions and community-based organizations
  • Committees of parents related to educational institutions
  • Communities formed around education centres

How will we celebrate Alegremia?

We will play games, both new and traditional. We will sing and play musical instruments. We will dance on wooden stages and on the streets of Cuenca. We will put on masks and paint our faces and shout in our ringing voices. We will tell you our stories and watch movies. We will fly kites. We will climb the mountains, roam the forests and the fruit markets. We will eat and drink and laugh and play. And oh, yes, we know how to have conferences too.

All the ways to get Alegremia!

Air and Water
Air and water should be pure, clean and free for every child.

Instead, children and adults have to live in smoky, choked cities sometimes never knowing what it is to breathe in a clean lungful of air.

Our water is poisoned and our rivers taken away from us. Every year there are less and less trees to call the rains down. Worse, some people are unwilling to share the gifts of the rain that pours down.

Clothing And Shelter
Millions of people living in the streets in extreme poverty need a roof and clothing. Migration affects children in an indiscriminate way because their parents must travel to other places to improve their economic situation.

Millions of children across the world work in inhuman conditions for low wages, without social security and without access to basic health services. Their education is cut short and sometimes never even begins. Sometimes they are forced to turn to gruelling labour and even to crime.

Food

Every night millions of children go to sleep hungry. Every day children are born hungry and starving even in the womb. The ancient hunger of the world is nowhere near ending.

In the name of food security and the nutrition of children, profit-oriented multi-nationals are producing food poisoned by artificial ingredients, pesticides and genetically modification. All children must grow up with the access to a sumptuous range of nutritious, exciting food.

Art
Everyone has a right to beauty, to the deep, quenching satisfaction of art, to the rough and tumble games of creativity.

Art must accompany games and sports creating multi-disciplinary education for every child. Art should be expressed in a multifaceted style, pushing the boundaries of life as far as possible.
